Perceptual Evaluation of Audio Quality (PEAQ)

In a joint cooperation under the leadership of the [International Telecommunication Union (ITU)], a group of leading sound quality experts have developed a new measure for sound quality: PEAQ. In 1999, PEAQ has been defined as the new ITU-R recommendation [BS.1387], thus providing an advanced quality metrics to the world wide audio industry.

A Revision of the PEAQ recommendation BS.1387 has been made in 2001.
The revised version BS.1387-1 includes corrections and amendments to recommendation BS.1387.

OPTICOM releases v3.5 of "OPERA - Your Digital Ear!", including PEAQ Advanced and Basic Model as hardware and software-only versions. OPTICOM also announced improved accuracy of PEAQ Basic and Advanced model at 44.1kHz, compared to 48kHz reference.

> Intellectual Property Rights
The contributing companies and research institutes as above own intellectual property rights (including but not limited to patents) and have agreed to the ITU, to make PEAQ available as an international recommendation under clause 2.2 of the ITU patent policy. This means that the technology provided under BS.1387 will be made available to third parties for commercial applications on reasonable fair and non-discriminatory terms. This implies that every commerical entity offering products and services that incorporate PEAQ should contact the above organizations and conduct a proper license agreement. OPTICOM GmbH has offered to arrange for license agreements as a single point of contact and share royalty revenues with the other developers.
